To be the national body representing the 4WD Community
4WD Australia represents and supports the Australian 4WDing community by providing advice to Government, policy makers and industry. We encourage safe, family friendly and sustainable 4WDing in the broader community. We promote the Four Wheel Drive code of ethics to respect environmental, historical and cultural values when exploring our diverse country.
Formed in 1978 as the Australian National Four Wheel Drive Council, Four Wheel Drive Australia is the peak body representing the state and territory four wheel drive associations at the national level.
FWDA activities are based on the premise that recreational four wheel driving is a legitimate activity and people have the right to own and use their vehicle for legitimate lifestyle and family activities. This premise is supported by policies that are based on factual evidence.
FWDA acts as your voice to keep 4WD tracks open so that we can continue enjoying four wheeling in the great outdoors. Through our united efforts, the opinions and beliefs of four wheel drive enthusiasts are heard by land management agencies and by our elected officials. The more of us who care enough to join us, the stronger our voice becomes.
You are invited to become a member of your local four wheel drive club and then by affiliation, your state and national four wheel drive associations. Your membership provides you with priceless benefits of friendship and camaraderie. It helps protect your rights for driving off the bitumen.
There are over 300 affiliated clubs in Australia. We encourage you to become a member of your local four wheel drive club and have your say through our state and national four wheel drive associations. To find out more, simply use our LINKS dropdown to contact your nearest association who will help you find a club near your location. Our member associations provide you with the opportunity to develop a whole range of bush, touring and camping skills.
Your local club will see you through basic and advanced four wheel drive and recovery skills - as far as you wish to go with regular training and skills development days.
Clubs take on projects which assist land managers to keep our parks and other public lands open for the enjoyment of the public.
Clubs lend a valuable hand to country folk in difficult circumstances, whether it be through fire, drought or flood.
Club trips are planned tours to all accessible parts of the country, be they day, weekend or several weeks duration.Club members can get Australia wide on and off road insurance coverage for their vehicles and equipment at discount rates. You can join a club for less than the cost of a tank of fuel.
Or if you just want to socialise and enjoy your chosen pastime with like minded persons, having fun camping and socialising, then join a club. These are some of the great reasons to join a 4WD Club so, even if you are only just a little bit curious, contact a club or your state or territory association and go along for a look.
